Aguathuna Baryte🤍 The old Aguathuna Quarry on the Port au Port Peninsula of western Newfoundland is one of the better-known Canadian localities for collector-quality baryte. Although the quarry was originally developed for limestone, its mineralized zones have produced attractive specimens of baryte associated with calcite, marcasite, celestine and abundant fossils. Baryte, or barite, is barium sulfate (BaSO₄), a relatively heavy sulfate mineral. At Aguathuna, it occurs within mineralized carbonate rocks associated with unusual carbonate mounds preserved in the quarry. Geological interpretations suggest that mineral-rich fluids moved upward through the carbonate structures. These fluids carried calcium, barium, iron and sulfur, which subsequently precipitated in open spaces, veins and fossil cavities as minerals including baryte, calcite and marcasite. 📍 Locality: Aguathuna Quarry, ⛏️ Origin: Port-au-Port, Newfoundland ⚖️ Weight: 28g 📏 Size: 40 x 40 x 20mm ⸻ 🛍️ You’ll receive the exact piece shown 📦 Securely shipped from Ontario Canada🍁
