✨ Chlorophane Fluorite from Erongo Mountain, Namibia ✨

This incredible specimen isn’t just beautiful—it has a secret. Chlorophane is a rare variety of fluorite known for its thermoluminescence, meaning it can glow after being gently heated.

Fluorite forms deep within hydrothermal veins when hot, mineral-rich fluids move through fractures in the host rock. As these fluids cool, fluorine combines with calcium to crystallize into fluorite. In the Erongo Mountains, a region famous for producing some of the world’s finest mineral specimens, unique trace elements such as cerium, and yttrium, and structural defects within the crystal lattice create the conditions needed for chlorophane’s remarkable luminescent properties.

The result is a crystal that captures millions of years of geological history—and under the right conditions, literally lights up because of it.

Discovered in 1938 and in production from 1939 to 1945, the Jerome Gold Mine was a short-lived but significant Ontario producer, yielding approximately 62,000 ounces of gold before a fire destroyed the mill in 1945 and operations ceased. Incredibly rare for this locality, only a couple of high quality specimens and are all in private collections!

Unearthed from the heart of Ontario’s mineral rich lands, the Rogers Mine in Madoc glowed with its signature sea‑foam green fluorite during two hard-working eras. First discovered in 1909, it saw open‑pit mining from 1910 to 1914, with a 65‑foot shaft added in 1914.

After a long hiatus, the Reliance Fluorspar Mining Syndicate Ltd. reignited operations from 1943 to 1951, sinking four deep shafts (up to 73 m) and mining nearly 39 000 tons of fluorite—the largest producer in the Madoc area
